FEATURED ARTIST

MEG & DIA

Originally from Utah, Meg and Dia create infectiously catchy tunes laced with beautiful vocal harmonies on top of bombastic power chords and air-tight rhythms. Alternative Press listed them as one of their ‘100 Bands You Need To Know In 2006'. Along with sisters Meg (guitar/vocals) and Dia (vocals), the band is rounded out Nick Price on drums, Carlo Gimenez on guitar and Jonathan Snyder on bass. Their new album, Something Real (Doghouse Records), was produced by Stacy Jones of American Hi-Fi fame. They'll be playing live at Middle East Downstairs on September 4th.

Darker My Love Hits the East Coast

With nods to the Velvet Underground and Iggy and Stooges, Darker My Love has crafted a sound that is quickly gaining a rabid following among alternative rock fans. They hit the Northeast this weekend with shows tonight at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, the  Mercury Lounge in New York Saturday, and  Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge Sunday.

With a slightly heavier sound than some of their more recognized contemporaries, such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the Dandy Warhols, Darker My Love reminds me a bit of Tall Birds, which in my eyes or more accurately ears is good company. Check them out for yourself at Darker My Love and sign up for their RSS feed to get updates on when they are coming to your city.

Joan Jett: Live at Avalon in Boston (10/13/2006)

While most things in Rock change and evolve, and not always for the better, Joan Jett pretty much stays the same.

As she has been in the game for nearly 30 years now, she had had many chances to sell out, sex-it-up, or jump at one of the numerous Runaways reunion tour offers. She has instead chose to keep her standards and marched at her own power chord driven path and her reputation in the rock world is one of the more respected ones ever. Read more...
